40 Hands Cafe (Singapore)
If you are ever feeling like a real Singapore Hipster craving for a good coffee – better check out 40 Hands Cafe. Macbook Density & Instagram Exposure – Very high.
Many reviews have been written about 40 Hands and I might just give you a slightly different angle to it. Well, or not…. OK…. well however. I am still puzzled about the hype that this venue has been experiencing. You might just check out on your own what the raving is about.
The venue itself is pretty small, space incl. seats are scarce and food is ordered self-service style at a counter. This obvious pretty popular concept of squeezing between other young & hip people and getting food on your own instead of being asked seems to be totally paying off for the owners: 40 Hands is packed especially on weekends. So be prepared to queue when going there.
Well so coming down to the food & drinks: You can chose from a variety of sweet and savoury items on the menu. Starting with different Toasties as well as the classic Breakfast options such as Eggs Benedict, French Toast, Homemade Granola… On top, several locally inspired items on offer (e.g Red Bean Paste Bun). I personally liked both food quality and portion size. Getting to price…. well, price is debatable. To sum up, 40 Hands is definitely a couple or actually single place to go that gives you full Singapore Citybeat experience. I don’t think this place is meant for families.
I still prefer being served at a table and not going to a self service kiosk – dont know but it always remind a little bit on McDonalds. Having the constant feeling of being asked to leave once my plate is empty to make room for the next batch of people who would like to squeeze in also does not contribute to me feeling relaxed. I might be old-school in this but that are attributes I believe in.
